School Visits 2

Living Earth

In this activity, children will learn  about the wonders of our Earth and that the Planet Earth is constantly changing

Concepts covered: soil formation, rocks & fossils, weather, seas and oceans, plates

Decay and recycling

We are all being taught about the importance of recycling, but how has nature coped for the last few billion years.  We discover the importance of fungi and moulds, meet millipedes, woodlice and many other creatures in natures restaurant.

Concepts covered: Food chains, decomposition and microhabitats.

Woodland Ecology

Why do certain woodland flowers only bloom in the spring? What happens to all the leaves that fall from the trees? Why do conifers keep their leaves all year round?  These are some of the questions we will answer when we compare our different woodland habitats.

Concepts covered: decomposition, microhabitats, ID using charts, Rock and soil composition affecting plant types.

Grassland Habitats

Here we will look at the various grassland communities and investigate some of the inhabitants that make up this ecosystem.

Concepts covered: ID using charts, Rock and soil composition affecting plant types.

Wet & Wild

A whole tiny world lives in our lakes & ponds. Children will sample the pond for the diversity of organisms living in various zones. They will observe some of the organisms distinguishing characteristics that allow them to live underwater. Using various magnification tools and identification guides students will identify a wide variety of Pond Life.

Concepts covered: Food chains, animal adaptations, animal identification, using ID charts and simple magnification tools.

Animal Adaptations

In this activity children will explore the fascinating adaptations animals have made for their survival.  We will look at how different animals have adapted mouth parts to eat specialised foods, how through camouflage organisms survive in the wild.

Concepts covered: Animal adaptations, predator/prey relationships
